Needlepoint Tip-Saving Money
"I have done finishing for a needlepoint shop in the past and learned many money saving things, the one that I use in a lot of my projects is when stuffing a finished large sized pillow, I will buy a bed pillow on sale at one of the discount stores, the filling is good quality and the size is much easier to work with than buying bags of stuffing and then making the material form...."- Judy R.
Needlepoint Tip- Embroidery Floss Storage
I often use embroidery floss for my needlepoint projects because it is easier find in my area. I alsolike to put the floss on those little "spools" that can be bought a craft stores. :):):):)There are 3 problems with those. Needlepoint Tip- Needlepoint Tip Securing Stitches
"I got tired of using messy tape to made sure my canvas didn't unravel ..so I now use Elmer's white glue. Apply it along the edges with thumb and forefinger (making sure you will be able to cut that part off later),let it dry and it works quite easily and and inexpensively." -Ellyn
Needlepoint Tip- Needlepoint Tip Smoother Stitching
"I take a small piece of yarn and tie my needle threader on to it and then attach the threader a fabric softener dryer sheet. I also use that fabric sheet to run my yarn through once it is on the needle. Makes the stitching smoother and the yarn doesn't tangle or knot as easily." -Susan
Needlepoint Tip- Needlepoint Tip Knots
"When making a knot in the end of your stitching thread, make a "slip" knot. When removing the knot, grab the tail. This gives you more thread to place in the needle when ending off. It also means you may park a knot in your thread anywhere, even the middle, if you will be needing it to stitch in an opposite direction from the one you are beginning with." -Dakota
Needlepoint Tip- Needlepoint Tip Trouble Threading Needles?
In the case you are having trouble threading a needle-[br] Sometimes you only need to turn the needle around - one side of the eye might be rougher than the other. --by Orothy
Always Check for Mistakes
When purchasing canvas, really look at what you are buying. It may not be labeled correctly and your project will not turn out the way you are expecting.
Needlepoint Tip- Needlepoint Tip Purchase Enough Yarn for Your Project
Be sure to purchase enough when you are planning for an upcoming project. There is a possibility that if you have to go back and purchase additional thread, even in the same color, that the colors won't be an exact match.
Avoiding Shadows
When beginning or ending a thread, you never want to run dark thread under light stitches. This will create an undesirable shadow on your work.
Save Time By Using Different Needles
It's easier to sew different colors with different needles. This keeps your from having to re-thread over again.
Stitch Tip
As a rule, you should always come up through an unused hole and go back down into a shared hole.
