Smyrna

The decorative stitch known as a Smyrna (or Leviathan Stitch) is a beautiful cross stitch made over two or four canvas threads.

Working over two canvas threads will completely cover the canvas. Working over four canvas threads may leave some canvas exposed. It is important to be exact when stitching the Smyrna to have the desired layered appearance that is intended. Also remember to complete each Smyrna stitch before going on to the next.
